“Abstractive tendencies - not a real term but it kind of does tell a little bit about my relationship with Abstract Expressionsim. I wasn’t initially a big fan...I kind of got it but I also felt a lot of folks just throw some paint on the canvas and try to call it art. Then I stood in front of a Ruben Tam up iat the Portland Museum of Art and for me the final straw was a Hoffman at the Met in NYC, where I could just drown in the colors...it was then I got it and said to myself it is OK to start go beyond expressive impressionism. But reality is, as you can see from my work, I tend to wander back and forth between impressionism and expressionism and hopefully push the boundaries on both”
